What does P0442 mean?
The DTC P0442 (Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (Small)) is a fault code stored by the ECU when it detects a EVAP small leak condition in the evap subsystem. It is commonly seen on European and Asian vehicles using Bosch, Continental, Siemens or Denso ECUs.
Common causes of P0442
- Loose/aged gas cap seal
- Pinhole in EVAP hose
- O-ring on fuel sender
How to fix P0442
Replace gas cap as cheap first step. If recurs, smoke test (uses CO2 or visible smoke).
